Monday, May 26th - Wednesday, May 28th

Tuesday was a bittersweet day; It was the last day of class in Corfu. Along with our normally scheduled three hours of lecture, we also listened to a mini lecture by Dimitrios on the importance of education and studying history. Also two groups presented their final projects, one on daily life in ancient Athens and one on the Persian-Greek Wars. A fun fact about Persia is that they didn't write down any of their history. Because of this, it is incredibly hard to learn much about them and instead we must learn about them through the eyes of the Greeks, who wrote their history down. The problem with this is the natural Greek bias towards the Persians, so a lot must be taken with a grain of salt.

After class and presentations, my roommate Mark and I spent the rest of the afternoon playing epic games of ping pong. We found out we're both pretty good about half way into the trip when we started playing on the hotel's table. I wish we started playing way earlier on.

That night, the Ariti hotel threw a pool-side party for us because we had stayed there for the entire month and would be leaving in a couple days. It was great to have some fun with everyone in the group and dance to some music out on the dance floor.

Wednesday was sadly our last day in Corfu. For lunch, Mark and I went to George's for our last lunch there. We had steak kebabs, pita, and tzatziki which is a delicious dip-like food consisting of yogurt, cucumbers, garlic, salt, and olive oil. We got to sign his autograph book, in which his favorite customers over the years get to write a little something. Then we did some souvenir shopping, which I had been slacking on.

Later that night, we had an amazing group dinner down at a fancy seaside restaurant. We were served several rounds of appetizers including zucchini patties, salads, and fried cheese and the main dish consisted of three different meats and a heap of potatoes. It was all delicious, as Greek food usually is. At the end of the dinner, Resident Director Dr. Joyce gave thanks to Claudia and Dimitrios for their hospitality and each of us received a hat and t-shirt that displayed Ionian University. Don't worry, I don't hate Corbin, I just didn't have three arms.
