Wednesday, May 21st - Sunday, May 25th

There was a local holiday on Wednesday in Corfu called 'Unification of the Ionian Islands' Day, when the Ionian islands were reunited with Greece after previously being under British rule. Because of the holiday, we had the day off of class. With this free day, we went to the center of town where all the festivities were taking place. Here, there was a parade that lasted for many hours and featured different bands and groups. We also got to show off some of our newfound Greek pride!

On Friday night, we went to a huge group dinner at Claudia's house, who is the director of the program in Greece. She prepared tons of delicious Greek food including pork, tomatoes, fried cheese, assortments of meats, potatoes, and eggplant. We all had an amazing time and it was cool to have an informal dinner finally with the woman who did so much for the program.

Saturday was a relaxing day at Barbati beach for the majority of us, which is a pebble beach as opposed to a sand one. Although the day started off overcast, the sun eventually came out and it turned into a pleasant day.

Sunday was another beach day for us. Can these views get any better?

Later Sunday at dinner, we had karaoke night at the local restaurant Captain George's. The two directors of the program, Claudia and Dimitrius came, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Joyce. Along with a great night of singing, I also got to taste a little bit of Greek specialty - ice cream and waffles. Yum!
